The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians include people from many tribes and bands of western Oregon and northern California, brought together on the Siletz Reservation in the 1850s.

Termination

In 1954 Congress ended federal recognition of the Siletz and dozens of other western Oregon tribes. The tribe lost most of its land and services.

Restoration

Tribal members fought for decades to win back recognition. In 1977 the Siletz became the first tribe in Oregon to have federal recognition restored.

Today

Today the tribe is based in Siletz and runs health care, housing, education and economic programs. Its annual Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow each August draws visitors from across the region.
