Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay sits beside one of the smallest harbors in the country. Its crews respond to emergencies along a rugged stretch of the central coast.
A tricky harbor
The harbor entrance is a narrow channel through rock. Crews train to run it in rough water, a skill that takes practice and nerve.
The work
Crews respond to boats in trouble, people swept off rocks and other emergencies. They work with helicopter crews from Air Station North Bend and with local fire and rescue teams.
A part of town
The station is part of daily life in Depoe Bay. Visitors on the seawall often watch the boats head out on training runs.
