Oregon Coast Daily News publishes local reporting for Lincoln County and the central Oregon coast. These are the standards our editor, Marnie Holcomb, applies to everything we publish.
Accuracy and sourcing
We rely on primary documents and on-the-record sources, and we link to public records, data and research when they are available online. We do not invent quotes, sources or details. When a fact cannot be confirmed, we leave it out or say plainly what is not known.
Independence
News coverage is not for sale. Advertisers and sponsors have no say over what we report. Any sponsored content will be labeled clearly as sponsored and kept separate from news.
Bylines
Some of our reporters write under pen names. Every byline belongs to a real member of our staff who is accountable for the work, and the editor knows the identity of every contributor.
Tools and review
We use software tools, including AI-assisted drafting and research tools, to help organize source material and prepare drafts. Every article is checked against its sources and edited by a person before publication, and the editor is responsible for the final text.
Photos
We use our own photography or images licensed for reuse, credited in the caption with the photographer and license. We do not publish computer-generated images of people.
Updates
When a story changes materially after publication, we note the update. Errors are handled under our corrections policy.
