For older homeowners on fixed incomes, rising property taxes can be hard to keep up with. Oregon offers a program that lets some homeowners delay payment.

Who qualifies

The program is for homeowners 62 or older, or those with a disability, who meet income and other limits. Applications go through the county assessor.

How it works

The state pays the property taxes to the county, and a lien is placed on the home. The deferred amount plus interest is repaid when the home is sold or the owner dies.

Where to start

The Lincoln County Assessor’s office can explain the program. See our guide to property tax deadlines.
