There are 114 Oregon schools ranked among the 2015 U.S. News Best High Schools, including three with gold medals, 25 with silver medals and 86 with bronze medals. Newport High School received a bronze rating. At Newport High School, students have the opportunity to take International Baccalaureate course work and exams. The IB participation rate at Newport High School is 14 percent. Newport students showed 91% proficient in Reading and 80% proficient in math.
Waldport High School also received a bronze rating. Waldport High showed a 70% math proficiency and 92% for reading. U.S. News calculates test score values based on student performance on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level course work such as the AP and IB exams. U.S. News calculated a College Readiness Index based on exam participation rates and percentages of students passing at least one exam. Overall student performance was one of the first of two steps in determining which schools received at least a bronze medal.
