The Lincoln City chamber of commerce reported they received a couple of reports from businesses that were contact by scam artists fishing for information. According to Candace Paris office manager for the chamber she received a call from a local business in Lincoln City and from a business in Philomath who reported that someone called saying they were with the Lincoln City chamber and that they were updating their records and needed information. The caller then started asking for private information including social security numbers. Something Paris said the chamber would never do.
She said the caller ID showed the call was originating out of Astoria. It had a 503 area code. The chamber tried to call the number and couldn’t reach anyone. In order to avoid being a victim never give personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller. If you receive a call from someone asking for personal information hang up and contact the chamber and also report the information to local police.
