High Speed Pursuit Ends In Arrest

MaleyOn August 13th  a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol in Siletz. At the intersection of NE Old River Road and Judd Road the deputy saw a white Honda Accord  cutting across in front of him onto Judd Rd. The Accord was going very fast for the turn and went completely into the oncoming traffic almost hitting a sedan head-on.

As Sgt. Meister attempted to stop the vehicle the driver accelerated away and a short pursuit ensued. After a few minutes, various turns through a small Tribal housing unit at speeds less than 50 MPH, the vehicle came to a stop in a field near a wooded area. The driver and a passenger fled on foot and evaded capture. The vehicle was impounded and later returned to the owner who and loaned it to one of the vehicle occupants.

An investigation and use of the high definition video system equipped in the patrol vehicle resulted in the identification of the driver who fled from the vehicle. He was identified as Carl James Maley, age 28 of Siletz. Maley was already wanted on a Parole Board Felony warrant.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was assigned to locate Maley and take him into custody on the warrant and the charges related to the pursuit. On August 21, 2015 at about 10:30 AM the CRU located Maley in a vehicle in Siletz. After another brief foot pursuit Maley was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on the no bail Felony warrant. Maley was also charged with Felony Eluding Police with a $50,000.00 bail, Misdemeanor Eluding Police with a $15,000.00 bail, and Reckless Driving with a $15,000.00 bail. Maley was additional cited for Driving While Suspended violation.
