Twenty-one students from Crestview Heights School in Waldport participated in a special event – Kids In need of a Shopping Spree (K.I.S.S.)- organized by the Central Coast Kiwanis Club and the Waldport HELP Center. Each student was matched with a community chaperone and was able to spend $100 at Walmart on clothing and shoes.
“The students were glowing with excitement. They took such pride in picking out items they really wanted and needed. New clothing for some students is rare and treasured,” shared Marisa Dean, Waldport HELP Center Advocate. Many parents expressed their appreciation of this support as the holidays stretch their income to the max. Warm coats, clothing and shoes are a very welcome resource at this chilly time of year.
After the shopping spree, students and families enjoyed a pizza party and cake back at the school. Kiwanis President, John Williams, spoke to the group and emphasized to the group how much the community cares about each child. Many sponsors made this heart-warming event possible: Power Ford, Figaros Pizza, Walmart, Servpro, Toyota of Newport, Windermere – Mike Smith, State Farm – Jeff Schrantz, and Emerald Coast Realty.
