Two Rescued From Siletz River

On October 7, 2016 at about 10:30 am Lincoln County Marine Deputies and Siletz Fire and Rescue responded to the report of two subjects that were stranded on a river bank after their canoe overturned on the Siletz River. Siletz Fire and Rescue swift water team deployed their RDC swift water rescue boat with two swimmers. The rescuers contacted and stabilized 31 year old Frank Caudillo and 23 year old Kyle Atkinson, both from Independence Oregon. Caudillo and Atkinson were suffering from mild hypothermia and were trapped on the west river bank of the Siletz River near the end of James Frank Road, Siletz. Marine Deputy’s Barry Bruster and Marshal Dean responded with a drift boat and transported Caudillo and Atkinson down river to waiting Siletz Fire Rescuers. The Marine Deputies were able to recover and return the over turned canoe. Both Caudillo and Atkinson were wearing their life jackets.
