First responders on scene discovered a heavily damage 2008 Toyota Prius that was traveling southbound on Highway 101 and a 1988 motor-home that was northbound on its side and the Toyota came to rest on the shoulder. The driver of the Toyota, Logan G Kitzhaber, 18, of Portland, was extricated from the vehicle by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue personnel and taken a short distance to a LZ (landing zone) that was created on Chinook Winds Casino & Resort golf course next to the highway. Kitzhaber was flown by Oregon Lifeguard air medical helicopter to Oregon Health Sciences University for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries; he has been released from Oregon Health Science University. The driver of the motor home, Stanley V. Lyckman, 67, of Port Angeles, Washington was transported with non-life threatening injuries and Martha Lyckman, age 63, of Port Angeles was also taken to North Lincoln Hospital by Pacific West Ambulance with minor injuries.
Highway 101 was closed completely for one over an hour, with North Lincoln Fire & Rescue firefighters cautiously re-routing traffic until ODOT crews could establish traffic control by opening the roadway to one lane with intermittent closures for over an additional hour, backing up traffic far into Lincoln City on the busy holiday. OSP is seeking any persons who may have witnessed the Toyota Prius and it’s driving behavior prior to the crash to call OSP at 503-375-3555. This is an ongoing investigation.
