INHOUSE Jazz will present a special performance by guitarist John Stowell, flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny and vocalist Annie Averre on Sunday, July 10 at 2:30 pm.

Part of an intimate series of house concerts on the Central Oregon Coast, the event will showcase a mix of fresh, original works, familiar jazz and bossa nova classics, and favorite selections from the artists’ recordings.

World-touring guitarist John Stowell is a unique jazz artist influenced as much by pianists and horn players as he is by other guitarists. Stowell’s original take on harmony, chords and improvisation sets him apart. “Guitarist John Stowell’s style with standards is a delightful departure,” writes the Los Angeles Times. “He transcends the label of jazz guitarist.” Downbeat agrees: “He plays his amplified guitar as if he were surrounded by fine crystal… the type of slow burning, sustained energy that you hear in players that practice all the time.”

Flugelhornist and composer Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following, releasing eleven CDs and touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”

Vocalist Annie Averre is known for her bright, vibrant, and accessible performances, bringing nuance, lyricism, and a compelling stage presence to jazz audiences. Described as “a quality musician and inspired composer” by noted pianist Randy Porter, Annie delivers a song with a heartfelt warmth and spirit uniquely her own.

INHOUSE Jazz, an official member of The Folk Alliance International, is an intimate house concert series presenting quality jazz artists on Sunday afternoons from April to September on the Central Oregon Coast.
