Port Commissioner David Jincks announced that he is resigning his position as port commissioner effective June 1^st as he is moving out of the area. Port general manager Kevin Greenwood made the announcement of the vacancy last night during the port meeting. Jincks has served as a port commissioner for about 18-years. He served from 1995-2005 and then was appointed in 2009 and then elected to the office again in 2013. David said he has enjoyed his time on the port and is proud of the accomplishments of the port.

“I come to this meeting with the same passion and the same dedication that I have come to every meeting with and I have never felt tired of it. It’s always been a pleasure. I feel very good about leaving as I’m leaving now with the commission that is sitting here.” Port Commissioners discussed the process of appointing someone to the soon to be vacant position.

They will be accepting letters of interest from perspective candidates. (See Information Below) During a work session commissioners will conduct interviews with candidates and hope to make an official appointment at their June 21^st port meeting. Mr. Greenwood praised commissioner Jincks and thanked him for his many years of service to the port and said that he will miss working with him. Commissioner Jincks was presented with a glass desktop clock as a thank you for his work with the port.

The Port of Newport is accepting letters of interest from persons within the Port District boundaries to fill a vacancy in Position No. 2 on the Port Commission.

Commissioner David Jincks has resigned his position effective June 1, 2016. His commission expires June 30, 2017.

Interested persons should mail or hand deliver a letter of interest no later than 5:00 pm, Tuesday, June 14th, to the Port office at 600 SE Bay Blvd., Newport, OR, 97365. To be eligible, applicant must be a registered voter and reside within the Port District boundaries. [Resolution No. 2014-08]

Letters of interest shall at a minimum include:

1. Full name of candidate.
2. Physical and mailing address of candidate. Optional information shall include phone number and e-mail address.
3. Amount of time as an elector within the district.
4. A statement of the candidate’s desire to serve on the board, including the following:
5. Knowledge of the Port of Newport, its mission, goals and services provided.
6. Experience servicing on boards, public and/or private
7. Reason for interest in serving on the Board of Commissioners.
8. Professional experience or knowledge that would assist Port in meeting its goals.
9. Perception of the Port’s strengths.
10. Perception of the Port’s weaknesses, and measures suggested to address those weaknesses.
11. View of the role of a Port Commissioner.
12. Signature and date.

Depending on the number of applicants, a Special Meeting may be held on June 21^st at noon at the South Beach Activities Room, 2120 SE Marine Science Drive, to interview applicants. An appointment to fill the unexpired term is anticipated at the regular Port Commission meeting on June 21st, 2016. The successful applicant is expected to take the seat upon being sworn in at the regular meeting. The Port Commission regularly meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
