Man Swept Off The Rocks In Depoe Bay #4

UPDATE:

On January 19, 2018 Oregon State Police was notified the Mexican Consulate had made contact with the victim’s next of kin in Michoacán, Mexico. The victim has been identified as Jose Alfredo Rodriguez Alvarez (age 46). Jose Alfredo Rodriguez Alvarez is presumed deceased.

At about 11:30 on January 18th Coast Guard crews, Depoe Bay Fire, Oregon State Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to help located a 46-year old man who was living in Newport but was from Mexico who climbed over the wall in downtown Depoe Bay and went down on the rocks to get a closer look. By-standers yelled at the man to not get so close and to come back. They reported that a wave swept up and knocked the man into the ocean.  The Coast Guard continued their search until around 7:15 last night. He has not been located and is presumed deceased. Storm activity is expected to continue with high tides and coastal area flooding. The Boiler Bay State Park and D-River state park were both closed due to storm activity and debris.
