On Saturday, March 11, 2017, at approximately 5:20am, Tillamook 911 received a phone call from a 78- year-old male, later identified as Edward Bodge, of Gig Harbor Washington, who was staying at the Silver Sand Hotel in Rockaway Beach. He was requesting an ambulance for a chest injury sustained when he fell.
The responding ambulance determined that Bodge, had been shot in the chest. Rockaway Police Department responded and the Tillamook County Major Crime Team which is made up of investigators from Rockaway Beach Police, City of Tillamook Police, Manzanita Police, and Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, was activated.
The victim was transported to the Tillamook Regional Medical Center then to Portland for further treatment. On Sunday, March 12, 2017, Mr. Bodge admitted to his family and to investigators that his wounds were self-inflected. The case has been confirmed as an attempted suicide.
