K-9 Bonni Helps Catch Burglary Suspect

On February 16th, 2017 at approximately 4:49AM Lincoln County Deputies received a 911 call of a burglary in progress in the 7900 block of Pacific Coast Highway, Seal Rock. The caller reported they had live video of two suspects inside their shop at the address. Deputies and Officers from the Newport Police Department responded to the scene.

Law enforcement officers arrived and attempted contact. Two suspects fled on foot from the building. The surrounding terrain was heavily wooded. Officers on scene set up a containment perimeter and Deputy Gautney and K9 Bonni were called to assist in locating the suspects.

Deputy Gautney and K9 Bonni searched the area where K9 Bonni tracked through the woods and located several stolen items. After further searching K9 Bonni alerted on an extremely dense wooded area. After commands to surrender were given, a male suspect surrendered and exited the brush. Micheal Ray Treece age 45 of Canyonville, OR was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail. The second suspect was not located however a person of interest was developed.

At approximately 3:30PM Deputy Gary Davey contacted Nicholas Allen Engle age 39 of Seal Rock regarding this investigation. Nicholas Engle admitted to his involvement in the burglary and was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail.

Micheal Treece’s bail was set at $202,500.00; Nicholas Engle’s bail was set at $202,500.00. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. Additional charges are expected.
