Shoppers Help Raise Funds For Cancer Patients

Grocery shoppers at Ray’s Food Place in Waldport, Ore., and C&K Market in Yachats, Ore., recently helped raise $3,788 to support the Women’s Cancer Fund of the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation. Through a month-long breast cancer awareness campaign in October at C&K Market-owned grocery stores throughout Oregon and California, shoppers at the check stand could “round up” their total bill to help support projects and organizations focused on breast cancer education, support and treatment. A total of $52,043 was raised among all stores.

The money raised locally will help provide financial assistance to women with breast cancer. Last year, the Women’s Cancer Fund helped 82 women.“Our Women’s Cancer Fund is an important resource for many women who need help to pay their medical expenses,” said Ursula Marinelli, executive director of the foundation. “We are grateful to C&K Markets and their shoppers for such generous support.” The Women’s Cancer Fund is one of 15 funds managed by the foundation to provide financial assistance and other resources for enhancing medical care and health throughout the community.
