In the early morning hours of December 27, 2016, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a damaged utility pole on Yaquina Bay Rd near mile post two. Upon law enforcement arrival it was found a utility pole which was located on the shoulder of the west bound lane was sheared off and blocking Yaquina Bay Rd. This caused the power to be knocked out in the local area. Law Enforcement Officers from Newport Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office searched the surrounding area for the vehicle however determined the driver and vehicle left the scene prior to law enforcement arrival.
Investigators believe the involved vehicle is maroon in color with aftermarket lighting. The suspect vehicle will have significant damage to the passenger side. Yaquina Bay Road was closed down for several hours while crews with Central Lincoln PUD replaced the utility pole and restored power. The cost of replacement was estimated at $15,000.
