On 12/16/16 at approximately 17:08 PM, the Lincoln City Police Department began receiving driving complaints on a small white pick-up driving into the south end of Lincoln City. It was reported to be making bad passes, and speeding. A short time later, the same vehicle sideswiped a vehicle on US Highway 101, at South 48th Street. The suspect vehicle continued northbound and nearly struck another vehicle head on
As Officers responded to the crash scene, Lt. Palmer and Sgt. Brian Eskridge caught up to the suspect vehicle near the area of US Highway 101 and NE 6th Street. After pulling behind the vehicle with lights and siren, it turned rapidly East onto NE 10th, and accelerated. The driver sped around through a business parking lot, and turned back onto US Highway 101 at North 10th Street. He drove into the oncoming southbound lane of the highway, placing at least nine other vehicles in that lane at risk for head on collisions.
The driver continued south at high speeds and stayed in the oncoming lane, until turning rapidly onto NE 6th Street. The vehicle then turned into the Devils Lake Park Camp ground speeding through the entryway. The vehicle slid past an intersection in the park, and drove into a campsite where he crashed into vegetation in the south side of the space. As the driver was attempting to get out of the vehicle he was taken into custody.
The pursuit lasted for less than one minute. Fortunately no one was hurt and the incident resulted in only minor property damage. Arrested was George Robert Kalani Spencer Jr. age 54, of Yuma, Arizona. Spencer was taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital to be medically checked and then was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on numerous charges including multiple counts of Reckless Endangering and Reckless Driving. Other charges may be made after the investigation is completed.
