The chairs of Tillamook County’s Democratic and Republican Party Central Committees have released this joint statement:
We would like to thank the nearly 14,000 voters in Tillamook County who exercised their right to vote – more than ever before. Your votes are the key to democracy.
The election cycle this year has caused high tension, and the national election was close. Since the election there have been incidents of protests and insults, on the streets and in schools. Fortunately Tillamook County has thus far been spared such shocking behavior. Together we call on the members of our parties, and the members of our communities, to work together, rather than fall into the traps that pull us apart. Whether as members of the governing majority or the loyal opposition, we cannot let hate and discrimination divide us. Respect and dignity should lead us in our daily lives.
As coastal Oregonians, we are proud of the example we show to the rest of the nation. We work together to get things done, and we get along with our neighbors. To quote Governor Kate Brown: “We are at our best when we are focused on what we share in common, rather than what divides us.”
Please join us in keeping Tillamook County safe for all who live and visit this wonderful place, the Land of Cheese, Trees and Ocean Breeze.
