On November 16th, 2016 at approximately 3:30 PM the Toledo Police Department responded to a burglary at a residence on Gaither Street. It was determined the suspect disabled a security camera at the front of the residence, but failed to notice the security camera at the rear of the residence which showed the suspect coming and going with stolen items, including a laptop, jewelry and a significant amount of currency. After viewing the surveillance footage the Toledo Detective on scene recognized the suspect as Kristopher Arthur Jones.
The next day on 11-17-2016 at approximately 10:00 AM the Detective conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Maxima sedan on Highway 229 near the south intersection of Yasek Loop. The vehicle was occupied by the burglary suspect, Kristopher Jones. After detaining Mr. Jones, Law Enforcement on scene was able to see suspected stolen property inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was then seized pending a search warrant.
The vehicle was also occupied by Jordan Harris, 19, of Newport, who was taken into custody on multiple outstanding warrants. And Benjamin Palm, 37, of Newport, who fled the scene on foot.
Through investigation Mr. Jones is believed to be responsible for multiple residential burglaries and car break-ins in the Toledo area which have occurred in the past few weeks. Mr. Jones was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on three counts of Burglary in the First Degree, three counts of Theft in the First Degree, one count of Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, and one count of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. Additional charges are anticipated.
On September 6, 2016, Newport Police Officer Humphreys began to conduct an investigation of a residential burglary that was believed to have occurred on September 1, 2016. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect entered the home and stole more than $3,600 in cash, collectible coins, and various electronic items.
On September 10, 2016, Detective Cummings recovered a stolen camera from this burglary at a local area pawn shop. Kristopher Arthur Jones, age 24 of Siletz, was identified as a person of interest. Officer Humphreys continued the investigation with this new lead in the case, and established probable cause for Jones’ arrest.
On November 17, 2016, Jones was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on unrelated burglary charges following a traffic stop by the Toledo Police Department. On November 18, 2016, the charges from the Newport burglary were added. Jones received two additional charges of Theft 1st Degree, and Burglary 1st Degree. His bail amount for the Newport case was set at $200,000.
Then on November 20, 2016 at approximately 8:15 AM Lincoln County Deputies were dispatched to a reported Criminal Mischief in the Siletz Trailer park, located at 724 SW Ferry Ave. in Siletz. The investigation revealed that Benjamin Arthur Palm, 37, of Newport, had taken property of another and destroyed it. Deputies had been looking for Palm since November 17th after he fled from a Toledo Police Traffic stop and evaded capture. Palm was wanted by his Probation Officer out of Benton County.
Deputies searched the SW Ferry Ave area for Palm and observed him running into a wooded area on foot. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit was utilized with the investigation. K9 Bonni and K9 Handler Deputy Gautney assisted in tracking Palm from his last known location. K9 Bonni quickly picked up the track and led Deputies to Palm who was actively trying to escape through a blackberry patch. Deputies gave Palm verbal warnings to surrender in which he quickly complied. Palm was taken into custody without further incident.
Palm was charged with Criminal Mischief in the second degree in relation to the vandalism complaint at the Siletz Trailer Park and placed on a probation hold by his Probation Officer. No bail was authorized.
