Lincoln County’s Nurse-Family Partnership recently finished its fourth year serving the community. NFP is an evidence-based, community health program that helps transform the lives of vulnerable mothers pregnant with their first child. Each mother served by NFP is partnered with a registered nurse early in her pregnancy and receives ongoing nurse home visits that continue up to her child’s second year birthday.
Independent research proves that communities benefit from this relationship — every dollar invested in Nurse-Family Partnership can yield more than five dollars in return. The program has been shown to consistently improve prenatal health, decrease childhood injuries, increase maternal employment and improve school readiness. Lincoln County’s NFP program has continued to excel at achieving and exceeding bench mark performances that result in continued Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home federal funding.
To honor the programs fourth year of success Senator Arnie Roblan and the Lincoln County Commissioners met with local NFP nurses and the families they serve to discuss the rewards and challenges of parenting. Commissioner Doug Hunt commented that “attending the Nurse Family Partnership’s meeting with Senator Arnie Roblan highlighted the broad benefits caregivers and their children receive.” Hunt, continued “NFP is an investment in families and our youth that yields a positive impact on our communities and our future.”
Last year Lincoln County improved outcomes for caregivers and their children, such as:
- No women with premature (before 37 weeks) babies.
- 100% of the women initiated breastfeeding
- 100% of babies were up to date on their immunizations
- 6% of women with Low birth weight (LBW). A 17.5% improvement from the previous year.
- Only 10% of the moms served had a subsequent baby while they in the program
- 55% of the moms we served were working at intake and 62.5% at 12 months after the birth of their baby were working. All higher than the State and national averages.
Lincoln County’s Nurse Family Partnership has offices in both Newport and Lincoln City. Nurses meet their clients wherever is most convenient for them and schedule appointments that work with their client’s schedule.
