Overnight construction closures done on U.S. 20

There will be no more 10 hour overnight closures on U.S. 20 for the west end curve tie-in of the Pioneer Mountain Eddyville Project. Recent rains, combined with the potential for more in the forecast, caused the cancellation of the remainder of the closures that were scheduled to go through the end of October.  

“We needed a steady week or so of dry weather to be able to safely work in that area. The project was scheduled to wrap up for the year at the end of the month and we won’t have a dry stretch before then.” said Assistant Project Manager Markus Schaaf. “As soon as weather allows there will be single lane closures and short delays in the area for construction, but no overnight closures.”

The main 5.5 mile new alignment of the project opened last week. The half-mile west end tie-in portion will be completed next fall. Travelers are reminded that there will be construction crews working in the area for the next few weeks and into the winter finishing the wildlife fence, placing a drainage pipe system in one area, seeding, planting, and building a buttress near the connection with Crystal Creek Loop on the west end, as weather permits.
