Golfers, sponsors and volunteers turned out in force to support the 21st Annual North Lincoln Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Scramble on Aug. 21. Their combined efforts helped to raise more than $58,000 for the children of Samaritan Early Learning Center. “We could not have had a better day – superb weather, fun with friends and a perfect location,” said Leslie James, development specialist for the North Lincoln Hospital Foundation, which hosted the fundraising event at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort. Participation at this year’s scramble tied with last year’s record of 128 golfers. More than 30 volunteers ensured that the day ran smoothly, from registration in the morning through the awards dinner at the end of the evening.
“One of my wonderful volunteers is a working mom with two kids trying to make ends meet,” James commented. “She had received scholarship funds so her kids could attend Samaritan Early Learning Center and she wanted to give back in thanks for the help she received.” Serving the children and families of Lincoln City and north Lincoln County for the past three decades, Samaritan Early Learning Center is located near Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in a facility that was constructed in 2011. The building is specifically designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of infants, toddlers and young children in a bright and lively setting, both indoors and out.
James added that this year’s golf event had 15 major sponsors, 12 contest sponsors, 37 tee and green sponsors, 11 grand raffle donors and 52 in-kind donations of baskets and gift certificates. “It was quite the team effort and I want everyone to know how grateful we are for their support,” James said. “We can’t thank our sponsors enough, so I would like to give a special appreciation to Duane Silbernagel, financial advisor with Waddell & Reed, for being our top sponsor again this year.”
