Former Newport High Teacher Arrested In Astoria

On 07/29/2016 Astoria Police arrested 52 year old Matthew Todd Love of Astoria after he was indicted by a Clatsop County Grand Jury on charges of Luring a Minor and Official Misconduct I.  Astoria Police began an investigation into Love following a report by a mandatory reporter alleging that he used “explicit verbal description or narrative account of sexual conduct for the purpose of inducing a minor to engage in sexual conduct (ORS. 167.057).”

Luring a Minor is a class C Felony.  The charge of Official Misconduct I, an A misdemeanor, was the result of an allegation that Love, a teacher, met the minor as a result of the minor being a former student. Love was placed on administrative leave by Astoria School District in May 2016, where he was a high school teacher.  The minor in this investigation was not a former student of the Astoria School District, and does not reside in the area.  Before teaching in Astoria Love was employed at other school districts on the Oregon Coast.

Astoria Police Department is interested in hearing from any current or former students of Love who believe he has engaged in any similar conduct or relationships.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Thomas Litwin at 503-298-2547 or by email at tlitwin@astoria.or.us.
