Colorectal cancer is the second most deadly form of cancer, but it doesn’t have to be. Through regular screening, it is highly treatable and preventable. Unfortunately, too few people are getting screened; only 66% of eligible Oregonians are up-to-date on their screening. Luckily, there are many different options available. You may be able to complete one in the privacy of your own home.
Most insurance plans cover colorectal cancer screening without a copay or deductible. Even for those who are uninsured, low-cost options may be available. Lincoln Community Health Center offers routine exams, including colorectal cancer screenings and consultations with payment plans and sliding fee scales available for those who are uninsured. Offices are located in Newport and Lincoln City. To make an appointment, call (541) 265-4947.
If you’re between the ages of 50 and 75, talk to your doctor to see if you’re up-to-date on your screening and about what options are right for you. If you have been screened, talk to your friends and family about your experience and the importance of getting screened. A person is more likely to get screened, after hearing from someone they trust. Your story could save a life. Lincoln County Public Health, in collaboration with our community partners, provides leadership to assure the conditions for healthy communities.
