Improvements Considered For Coastal State Parks…Public Invited To Comment

Oregon Parks and Recreation is having a couple of planning meetings tomorrow in Newport and Gleneden Beach that relate to several of their parks on the coast. The scheduled meetings will be to discuss South Beach and Beverly Beach management units planning process. There will be a open house meeting tomorrow from 11:30 to 2:30 at the Newport Recreation Center and from 5-7pm at the Gleneden Beach Community Center. Development concepts will be presented on display boards for comments.

For the last two years staff have been reviewing existing conditions, analyzing needs, and creating a plan to guide future development. Some of the ideas already discussed include having a new disc golf course, parking, & trails at the South Jetty in Newport;  pedestrian connections & trail improvements at Yaquina Bay State Park; A new sports field and parking improvements at Agate Beach State Recreation Site; New campground & day use improvements at Fogarty Creek State Park and proposals for a variety of facility and natural resource improvements at Driftwood Beach, Seal Rock, Beverly Beach, and Gleneden Beach.

The next Advisory Committee meeting is set for next Tuesday, July 12 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at Beverly Beach State Park, Meeting Yurt..  The general public is welcome to attend the Advisory Committee meeting however, only comments from the Advisory Committee will be heard at this meeting. Those unable to make the open houses tomorrow can get more information and provide comments online.
