While on patrol in Waldport on the evening of June 22nd a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Cadillac for a minor traffic violation. In an attempt to elude, the Cadillac traveled through Waldport southbound on Highway 101 without stopping, and then rapidly accelerated as it neared the city limits. The deputy pursued the car for approximately three miles at highway speeds until the driver stopped and surrendered. Additional Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies and an Oregon State Police trooper arrived to assist in the investigation.
The driver, identified as 25 year-old Zachary Runs Medicine Perkins of Portland, was taken into custody without further incident. Perkins was determined to have an outstanding Oregon State Parole Board warrant for his arrest and was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Perkins was taken to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged on the outstanding warrant, one count of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, and one count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. His bail was set at $100,000. Perkins’ female passenger was released from the scene without criminal charges and provided transportation to her residence.
