Oregon Sea Grant was recently awarded three days of state funded ship time aboard the Oregon State University Research Vessel, R/V Oceanus, for a project titled “Building the STEM Pipeline through Oceangoing Research and Near-Peer Mentoring”. This project seeks to provide transformational educational experiences aboard the OSU’s research vessel for high school students, undergraduate and graduates students, and early career faculty. Participants will have the opportunity to work with marine mammal and seabird researchers and utilize a variety of technology to collect data, test their own devices developed in conjunction with researchers, and discuss and investigate scientific methods during a three day research cruise off the Oregon coast which will take place September 13-15, 2016.
Only Oregon Coast high school students who will be seniors in the 2016/2017 school year are eligible to apply. Additional information can be found in the attached document. All application materials must be submitted electronically by July 1, 2016 to: OregonCoastSTEM@oregonstate.edu.
