The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has received reports over the past few days from Lincoln County residents of telephone scams relating to court proceedings. The scammers are claiming each call recipient has failed to appear for a court proceeding they were subpoenaed for and that they will be arrested if they do not immediately submit a fine payment. The scammers will usually request money orders through Western Union or similar companies to remedy their situation. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assures our citizens this is not an accepted practice for law enforcement or the judicial system. Sheriff’s Office representatives remind our citizens not to provide personal information over the telephone or submit money when they receive such requests. Citizens are encouraged to call their local law enforcement provider if they have any questions.
