Dancing with Sea Lions at the Newport PAC – “Gifts of the Sea” by artist Kim Pickell – showcasing the maps, waves and swirls and sea shells
The public art project, Dancing with Sea Lions, aims to reflect the natural wildlife on the Oregon Coast and the ripple effect the arts have on its community. The sea lions have been painted by 20 different artists and are now on display throughout Florence and as far as Newport and Reedsport. Two sea lions found their way up the Oregon Coast on Friday April 15th at Port Dock 7 at the Newport Bay Front and at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
Other locations include Sea Lion Caves, Three Rivers Casino, The Florence Events Center, Florence Chamber of Commerce, several in Old Town Florence, and one at the Reedsport Umpqua Discovery Center. The creative public art project will be in place for 6 months. After that time, the sea Lions will be auctioned off for permanent placement.
Major underwriters for the project are the Friends of the Florence Events Center, Three Rivers Casino & Hotel, Sea Lion Caves, and Florence Urban Renewal Agency.
