On Saturday February 27th at 12:10am, Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers and emergency crews responded to the report of a head-on crash on Highway 20 near milepost 1.8 just outside Newport. Preliminary information indicates the driver of a Subaru Outback identified 32-year-old Jennifer Rozewski of Waldport was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when she crossed the centerline and struck a westbound Nissan pickup head-on. Rozewski received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as 52-year old Joseph A Dauenhauer of Newport, was also taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Rozewski was arrested once she was released from the hospital for Manslaughter II and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Alcohol was believed to be the contributing factor of the crash. OSP was assisted by the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Police, Newport Police, Toledo Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
