Burglary Suspect Arrested

On September 24, 2017, the business, Newport Rental, was burglarized and over $5000.00 dollars’ worth of power equipment was stolen. Video footage provided the suspect’s vehicle and a physical description.

The initial report with Newport Police Department contained serial numbers for the stolen articles. The assigned detective ran the serial numbers through a database, ascertaining one of the chainsaw had been sold to a pawn shop in Lebanon, OR. The suspect was then identified as Steven B. Rouse.

Further investigation revealed ROUSE had pawned five other chainsaws throughout Oregon. Newport Police Detective, tracked Rouse down and conducted an interview. Rouse initially denied pawing the chainsaws, then changed his statement. A close associate of Rouse, confirmed his identity on the video footage from Newport Rental.

Rouse was arrested and transported from Eugene, OR to Lincoln County Jail. Steven B. Rouse was booked on charges of Burglary II x 2 / Theft I x 7, and Criminal Mischief. His bail was set at $455,000.00. The Newport Police Department would like to remind our citizens to keep documentation of serial numbers and descriptions of valuable items.
