Optimist Club Re-Open Newspaper Recycling

The Optimist Club of Newport and Yaquina Bay recently announced that they have found a new vendor for recycled newsprint. The drop box, located at NE 7th and Harney Streets in Newport, is again open for the community to re-cycle their old newspapers. On November 1st The Optimist Club of Newport and Yaquina Bay announced that, due to market disruption for recycled newsprint they were having to close their newspaper recycling program.

According to optimist club member Rebecca Cohen-Rozewski International Paper has stepped up and is now taking their clean, loose newsprint. The profits from this project fund community organizations that serve Newport’s youth. Cohen-Rozewski expressed her appreciation for the community support that the Optimists’ have enjoyed for the 45 years that this project has been in place allowing the organization to help local youth.

The Optimist Club meets in JC Market’s conference room the second Thursday of each month. Anyone interested in being a part of this very positive minded group is welcome to join them.
