First Public Meeting begins 2018 Commons Master Planning Process
Master Plan Vision Committee
January 8, 2018, 5:30 – 7:00pm
Lincoln County Courthouse
225 W Olive St, Newport, OR 97365
The public is invited to attend the first meeting of the 2018 Commons Master Planning Process.
Lincoln County is preparing a Refined Master Plan for facilities at the Lincoln County Commons, “Home of the Lincoln County Fair”. The Refined Master Plan will help the County achieve the Commons’ mission to “offer a variety of venues to make the Commons a preferred destination for residents and visitors.” The Master Planning Process will run through July 2018 and will be followed by planning and design for a new multi-use Main Exhibit Hall and ancillary facilities.
The Lincoln County Commons has been an important gathering place and location for public events in the County for more than 100 years. The Lincoln County Fair is the largest event at the Fairgrounds and celebrated its Centennial in 2008. The buildings, utilities and grounds at the Commons have suffered from years of neglect and deferred maintenance. The Master Plan will include a facilities plan that identifies new facilities and needed improvements to existing facilities, and a comprehensive business plan that explores management options and provides an operational and maintenance budget and potential funding mechanisms.
This meeting will identify the how the public will be engaged in the coming year.
Lincoln County is committed to an open, transparent and robust public process in development of the refined Master Plan. There will be multiple opportunities for community members to participate in the process:
- Interviews with key stakeholders to be conducted in January 2018.
- Community meetings held in various locations throughout the county.
- Online surveys available for people unable to attend the community meetings.
- Presentations to the Fair Board and Board of County Commissioners.
- Four Master Plan Visioning Committee meetings between January and July 2018.
