“Serving health care consumers is the core of our mission,” said Chiqui Flowers, administrator of the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace. “So, it is rewarding to see Oregonians are finding plans that meet their needs, and are successfully navigating the enrollment process.”
The enrollment total during the previous sign-up period, for 2017 coverage, was 155,430.
Oregon business, government, and nonprofit partners helped bolster health insurance enrollment. Before open enrollment, the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, awarded competitive grants to six community groups and 31 insurance agencies. These local partners publicized the enrollment deadline and gave one-on-one enrollment guidance to consumers. The marketplace also implemented a vigorous, Oregon-based outreach campaign that included radio and television spots, online ads, and event sponsorships.
“Our work continues, even though open enrollment has closed,” said Flowers. “All year, the marketplace and our partners help people understand their coverage, navigate the insurance aspects of tax time, and update their coverage as their lives change.”
