Newport Man Arrested For Drugs And Having A Bomb

On October 31st, 2017 the Newport Police Department, with the assistance of Lincoln City Police and Oregon State Police, served a narcotics related search warrant at an apartment complex located at 146 SW Cottage Street in Newport. During the service of the warrant, officers located methamphetamine packaged for sale, digital scales, drug records, US Currency, a large quantity of Red Phosphorous (a pre-cursor substance in the manufacture of methamphetamine.), and a homemade explosive device.

Officers evacuated the residents from the 4 unit apartment complex. Oregon State Police Bomb Disposal Unit secured the IED and confirmed it was capable of exploding.

Arrested at the scene and transported to Lincoln County Jail was Jeffrey Scott Gruver, 54, of Newport, OR. During the booking process additional methamphetamine was found on Gruver.
