Car VS Bicycle On Hwy 18

Saturday afternoon September 16th around 3:40pm State Police Trooper Brian Eskridge responded to a report of a bicyclist hit by a car on hwy 18. Investigation showed the bicyclist a 49-year old from Salt Lake city Utah was traveling westbound along Highway 18 near milepost 9.5. The driver of a Nissan Murano identified as 71-year old Walter McArthur of Neotsu was traveling westbound along the same highway.

McArthur drifted off the north side of the roadway onto the earthen shoulder before striking the bicyclist from behind at speeds of approximately 55 MPH. The bicyclist was transported with life-threatening injuries, to Grand Ronde by Pacific West Ambulance they were met by Lifeflight. The bicyclist was then flown to OSHU Hospital in Portland Oregon for treatment. McArthur stopped, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Neither the driver or passenger in the Nissan were injured.

  1. Walter McArthur needs to go to jail for a minimum of 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is absolutely NO excuse for him running over this bicyclist!!!
