The Port of Newport unanimously decided to offer the interim port manager position to Aaron Bretz. He has been the acting manager after Kevin Greenwood’s departure. The commission initially planned on hiring someone else for the interim port manager position. They put out a call for applicants and received two.
During an executive session the port commissioners interviewed two applicants John Todd and Gregg Speer. The commission could not agree on either of the candidates. During their regular meeting Commissioner Walter Chuck stated that he felt that Aaron would be a great fit for the pro-tem manager position. This was seconded by Commissioner Lamerdon and the port commissioners unanimously approved to keep Aaron Bretz as the interim manager while they continue the search for a new permanent manager.
Jim Durkee will move to the position of operations director. Bretz joined the Port of Newport after retiring from the US Coast Guard with 21-years of service. His service included capital projects, search and rescue team leading and training and streamlining of operating procedures. He has a B.S in applied management from Ohio University. Bretz pay was bumped to match his pro-tem position.
