Burglary Suspect Arrested

August 21, 2017, at approximately 10:00 A.M., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Hwy 101 and NW 6th Street on a report of a suspicious subject. A witness reported a male subject had thrown a brick through the window of Mishey Real Estate Office.

A Newport Officer arrived on scene and located the subject, who was identified as 32-year-old David James Caskey. Caskey ran a short distance from the scene, and when confronted by the officer, Caskey brandished a knife and threatened to harm himself.

Additional Newport officers and Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office deputies responded to assist. After negotiating with Caskey, he voluntarily dropped his knife and surrendered to officers. Caskey was taken into custody without further incident.

Caskey was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for observation. He was later transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was lodged on the following charges: Attempted Burglary II, Criminal Mischief II, and Theft III.
