The Lincoln County planning commission held a public hearing regarding a Conditional Use Permit to establish a residential co-ed alcohol and drug detox/treatment center on property located on the Salmon River Highway. According to County planning director Onno Husing the company proposing to purchase the property for the center is called Power House. They have other facilities in Eastern Oregon that are very successfully run.
Husing said there was a lot of testimony at the hearing of how needed this type of facility is in Lincoln County. There were several neighbors in the area who voiced concerns. Some remembered when the property was used as a troubled boy’s home and it was not a good experience for the area. Husing said after the hearing he felt that everyone’s questions were answered and most felt more comfortable about the facility.
The main building is proposed to be the detox/treatment facility that is to house between 25 and 30 clients. The single-family dwelling is proposed to be the residence of the intake coordinator. The triplex is proposed to be used for 24-hour security, the grounds keeper, and the property owners on an as-needed basis. The detox and treatment center will employ between 13 and 15 full- and part-time positions. After the meeting the planning commission approved the conditional use permit.
