Deputy Barry Bruster Is First School Resources Deputy

By Kiera Morgan

Senior Deputy Barry Bruster is the county’s first School Resource Deputy in the history of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He will be working at Toledo and Waldport in the High Schools and the Elementary schools. The focus will be on student safety, maintaining safe schools. He will also be working with teachers and students on health safety, internet safety and use of cell phones and what is appropriate to share and what not to share. He will also focus on drug, tobacco and alcohol education.

He said “this is a great opportunity to show the Sheriff’s office in a positive light and hopefully through interactions with the students I can steer them in a positive direction.” Deputy Bruster recently attended the Oregon School Resource Officer Conference held in Lincoln County this year. Deputy Bruster said he is excited to partner with the Lincoln County School District to work towards a safer school experience for students in the Toledo and Waldport Schools.
