Accident On Hwy 101 Had Traffic Backed Up Sunday


Sunday night traffic along hwy 101 from Newport to Waldport was tied up due to a three car traffic crash that occurred on Hwy 101 and 119th. State Police Trooper Wertz responded to the scene at about 5:30pm. The investigation showed the driver of a Dodge Ram truck, identified as 21-year old Matthew Finneman was southbound when he reportedly became distracted and drifted into the northbound lane.

The truck then crashed head on into a Chevy Truck. The driver of a Honda Pilot was also northbound behind the Chevy, and was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the truck.

The driver of the Chevy Truck sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. No one else was injured in the crash. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies, ODOT and Seal Rock Fire Department assisted at the scene. Mr. Finneman was cited for careless driving.
