Undergraduate Student Research Talks to be presented at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center
The annual Marine Biology Student Symposium at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center will take place on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 11am-3pm in the Visitor Center Auditorium. The symposium, which is open to the public, is a series of brief research talks where undergraduate students describe their semester-long research projects in marine ecology. Many of the student projects, conducted in the seawater labs and environs of the Hatfield campus, are food preference experiments under varying environmental conditions.
The symposium is a culmination of Oregon State University’s 15-credit Marine Biology and Ecology course (BI 450) offered annually by the Department of Integrative Biology at OSU. This single course fulfills the Marine Biology Option, a specialization within the Biology major, and is designed to give students a strong background in the biology of marine organisms and their habitats. The Option and a similar Marine Biology Minor emphasize field and laboratory course work in marine biology, ecology, conservation, and oceanography in residence at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center. The Marine Biology option and minor both provide excellent preparation for graduate and teaching programs and for employment in a variety of fields related to marine biology, veterinary medicine, and aquarium sciences.
