On the afternoon of Monday January 2, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies located a truck in the 4000 block of Yaquina Bay Rd with damage consistent from evidence collected at the scene of the hit and run traffic crash on Yaquina Bay Rd from last week involving a utility pole. The crash occurred in the early morning hours of December 27. Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a damaged utility pole on Yaquina Bay Rd near mile post two. Upon law enforcement arrival it was found a utility pole which was located on the shoulder of the west bound lane was sheared off and blocking Yaquina Bay Rd.
This caused the power to be knocked out in the local area. The cost of replacement of the power pole was estimated at $15,000. Law Enforcement Officers from Newport Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office searched the surrounding area for the vehicle however determined the driver and vehicle left the scene prior to law enforcement arrival. Deputies contacted 60-year old Gayland R. Sellars from Newport. Sellars provided a statement and was ultimately cited for Criminal Mischief I, Failure To Perform Duties of Driver with property Damage, Failure To Report an Accident to Law Enforcement, and Failure To Report Accident to the Department of Transportation.
