Log Truck Rollover Crash In Toledo

Log Truck

On 07-05-2016 at approximately 5:03pm, Toledo Police Officer Crocker was flagged down by a motorist in the area of SE 10th Street and SE Fir Street reporting a log truck that had rolled over on Butler Bridge Road, just south of East Slope Road. Officer Crocker responded to the crash scene and observed a blue Peterbilt log truck hauling two full trailers, the second of which had tipped over, spilling the logs over the road and sidewalk on the west side of Butler Bridge Road. The driver of the truck was identified as Edward Beemer, and did not sustain any injuries. Mr. Beemer’s employer, Miller Timber, was notified, and a free loader responded to the scene to assist in cleaning up the mess.

After getting the trailer upright, the logs were re-loaded, and Mr. Beemer was again on his way to his destination at Western Cascade Mill. The cause of this crash was due to the cables securing the logs breaking mid-turn, causing the logs to shift with enough weight and force to tip the trailer over. Witnesses stated there was nothing Mr. Beemer could have done differently to prevent the crash from occurring. Damage to property was sustained by the Georgia Pacific Mill, the City of Toledo, NW Natural, and Central Lincoln PUD, and they have all been notified. The Toledo Police Department was assisted at the crash by Toledo Fire and Rescue and Georgia Pacific Mill Security.
