Waldport High School Ecotourism Teacher, Melissa Steinman has been nominated for the Oregon Tourism Leadership Award. This award recognizes an individual who champions the value of tourism, and whose vision and commitment help make the communities, tourism regions, and state stronger visitor destinations. The award also recognizes those whose leadership behind the scenes contributes significantly to the recognition and impact of Oregon’s travel and tourism industry. Nominees must exemplify exceptional leadership and vision which contributed greatly to the impact of Oregon’s travel and tourism industry.
Nominees are brought to the attention of Travel Oregon through an open year round nomination process. Nomination for the award is an honor and the winner of the award will be announced at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Pendleton April 24-26. Attendance of the conference in the 2016-2017 school year is part of the Coastal Tourism and Rural Marketing Career pathway recently launched at Waldport High School as part of the Career and Technical Education Revitalization Grant. This grant was recently awarded by the Oregon Department of Education and Waldport High School was a recipient of grant funding to promote eco-tourism in South County. Ms. Steinman said she looks forward to attending the conference in order to expand opportunities available to Waldport students.
